December 31, 2019

It’s a new year and  a new decade! What better way to celebrate than to get out amongst Cairns City and the beautiful areas around here. Jump into the New Year with AJ Hackett and kick start 2020 with a Bungy Jump!

Tropical North Queensland really earns its tropical name in January and February which is typically our ‘green’ season thanks to the higher levels of rainfall in this period. Whilst we do get a bit of rain in January, it really is the best time to see the spectacular rainforest in its natural glory (they don’t call it that for nothing!)

A must-do during wet season is to see the mighty Barron Falls as it rages down the gorge after a downpour- the best vantage points are via Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and a stop along the Kuranda Scenic Rail line, so make sure to book a trip to Kuranda to tick Barron Falls off your list!

Gong xi fa cai! 2020 will welcome the Year of the Rat in the Chinese calendar. As Cairns has a large multi-cultural local and visitor population, the Chinese New Year celebrations are a big event. A range of events featuring music, dance and cultural performances (including the traditional Chinese Dragon) parade are held over the period. New Year’s Eve celebrations with fireworks on the Cairns Esplanade are on Friday 24th from 5pm to 7:30pm, and the Chinese New Year Street Festival will be on Grafton Street on Saturday 1st February.
