What’s on in Cairns: January 2019

It’s the start of a New Year and we are right in the middle of Summer! Generally referred to as our Wet Season, however locals like to call it the Green Season- the rainforest truly comes alive with some rain! It’s definitely a humid time, but if you want to see the rainforest at it’s most spectacular, this is the time for you. The days tend to start hot and lead into some afternoon/evening rain to relieve the heat. If you’re chasing waterfalls, you’ve come at the right time too! They look their best after the rain- just make sure to be safe and follow local safety instructions/advice if you are looking to swim as undercurrents can be much stronger than it looks.

Take a trip to Kuranda via the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and the Kuranda Scenic Rail, which will tick off the rainforest as well as give you an amazing view of the mighty Barron Falls. So, if it’s raining on your visit, embrace it and be sure to experience the rainforest in this magical state.
