Seastar Cruises premium reef cruise combines Pristine Michaelmas Cay with the very popular Hastings Outer Reef. Small group of 35 passengers. Hot/cold buffet luncheon. An all-inclusive pricing policy. All you need to dive and snorkel is supplied.

Seastar is quick, arriving at Michaelmas Cay in just over an hour. Scuba Dive or snorkel from Seastar. Take the ferry to the beach and join in our guided snorkel tours starting from the calm sheltered waters of the Island.

After spending the morning at the Michaelmas Cay, we leave when the crowds arrive and take a short cruise to Hastings Outer Reef. Enjoy listening to our Reef Interpretation talk, join in our Glass bottom boat tour or our guided snorkel tours, or you can enjoy Scuba diving if you wish.

With a generous two and a half hours at both reef locations, ample time is available to fully enjoy all that each offers.

Michaelmas Cay

Located 22 nautical miles from Cairns – 40 km – the distance across the English Channel, and close to the outer reef systems, Michaelmas Cay is the largest of the uninhabited coral cays in the Cairns region; in fact it is huge in comparison to the others. Being so large it can sustain a permanent low grassy area the size of 2 football fields, approximately 3½ metres high (11’ 6”) and is home to up to 35 different species of sea birds. Seastar is the first vessel to arrive at Michaelmas Cay. Very few tour boats are now permitted access to this sensitive island and there are only three vessels which travel daily that are permitted the right to use the Cay on their trips.

Hastings Reef

Hasting is a typical outer reef, on most days a line of breakers marks where the deep ocean swells break onto the reef wall. The reef itself is shallow on top, with steep sides reminiscent of cliffs falling away into the surrounding water. Seastar moors on the calm side at one of the most interesting locations and although the back of the boat may be hanging over the shallow coral the bow of the boat is in 20 metres of water.
